Catcher Alex Trezza and reliever Nick Serino have been named the Tornadoes Player and Pitcher Of the Week for the week of June 11 to June 18th.
Alex Trezza broke out in a big way last week with five home runs and eight RBI in a four-day span. After failing to hit a home run in his first twenty games, Trezza hit two home runs on back-to-back nights in Rockland this weekend to account for 10 of the team’s 13 runs in their first two games. For the week, Trezza hit .241 (7-for-29) with six extra-base hits, eight RBI and eight runs. Add in the fact that Trezza caught five opponents trying to steal, and Trezza easily put together the best single week of any Tornado this season.

Nick Serino has been the steadiest member of Chip Plante’s bullpen this season and he had another big week for the Tornadoes with three appearances in four days. Serino picked up his first win of the season in Friday night’s 11-7 game, one of just two wins for the Tornadoes in nine contests. Over the course of his three games, Serino pitched four and a-third innings allowing one run, one earned and striking out five. Despite having his team-high nine-inning scoreless streak end in the team’s win Friday, Serino kept the team in the game, long enough for the Tornadoes offense to rally and was near perfect in his other two contests.
